Let Him Be a Basketball Player is the story of Ranta, always hungry, clumsy and infinitely tall teenage boy (so tall that he could tie a necktie for Giraffes). When the gym teacher at his school invites him to play for a basketball team, Ranta’s world is turned upside down. So starts an exciting journey, full of unpredictable adventures with his funny friend/manager Smodlak by his side.

Awakenings is a story about the magical (and not so magical) moments when we wake up. But at the same time the film is about the mental awakening of our protagonists.

The story revolves around three couples, who have just begun their relationship, are about to end it, or never really neither began nor finished it. Robert has just divorced and moved to his own place. Soon his student and lover Jana moves in with him, although not entirely by his will. Jana quickly establishes her own way at home and Robert finds himself in a situation he doesn’t know how to control. An established photographer Marcel finds out that his wife Ula got her pictures screened at a very important festival. As usual, he performs one of his typical cynical/sarcastic tantrums – but Ula doesn’t respond to his methods anymore. Slowly (and painfully) the power shift in this relationship is tearing them apart. Jonas and Karmen meet at Marcelo’s exhibition after 20 years. Their high-school flames burn once again, so they find themselves in a hotel room. They spend the night talking and sharing their old feelings and resentments. Nevertheless, with the morning comes the moment of sobriety – Karmen returns to her family. In the last couple of scenes, our characters experience a whirlwind of emotions and situations that finally brings them all at the same place. But what is real and what is just a performance?

Poetični in globoko osebni dokumentarec Marka Kumerja Murča in Nine Cijan je nežna ljubezenska zgodba med prebivalci Šoštanja in njihovim počasi ugašajočim mestom. / This poetic and deeply personal documentary is a gentle love story between the residents of Šoštanj and their fading town.

Four different families, each of them with its own pains, hopes, desires and dreams. What’s inherent to all of them is overwhelming presence of the machine, mounted in their city some decades ago. A Thermal Power Plant which was once city’s pride, is now a synonym for political machinations, ecological catastrophe and corruption. A gentle tale of a love relationship between people and their city, slowly burning out.

Peter vs. Harry je enourni dokumentarni portret v Ljubljani živečega nemškega vsestranskega umetnika Petra Braatza. / Peter vs. Harry is a one hour long documentary portrayal of a versatile German artists living in Ljubljana.

A portrayal of Peter Braatz, a German-Slovenian artist, musician, cinematographer, screenwriter and director, who also goes by the name of Harry Rag, though not being sure what ‘harry rag’ actually stands for (apart from being the title of a smash hit by The Kinks). Braatz, who came onto the German punk scene in late 1970s and 1980s as lead singer of S.Y.P.H., is primarly a documentary filmmaker whose works are often misunderstood and rejected. Peter vs. Harry features insightful interviews with Braatz’s colleagues and friends, as well as family members and like-minded people.

Directed by Jure Breceljnik and Rožle Bregarj, this documentary feature film explores the 4000-year-old tradition of Inuit hunters in eastern Greenland, whose unique culture in an unforgiving natural environment is today threatened with extinction.

Le 4500 prebivalcev naseljuje 20.000 km dolgo obalo vzhodne Grenlandije. S prehodom od življenja v popolni osami do neposrednih učinkov in posledic globalizacije. Svet Inuitov se zdaj spreminja s svetlobno hitrostjo.

Only 4500 inhabitants reside on the 20,000km coastline along eastern Greenland, one of the most sparsely populated areas in the world. Untouched by civilisation, this wild environment has inspired one of the most specialised hunting cultures in the world. But faced with the rapid modernisation of the last century, the indigenous Inuit culture that had remained isolated and unchanged for 4000 years, has made dramatic changes and experienced the immediate effects of globalisation.

Mogoče bosta dosegla srečo, ki sta jo Peter in Maruša zaman iskala.

Peter is the dark brooding type. Leading a vacuous, shapeless life, he longs for the ideal woman, while at the same time, half heartedly continuing with his habitual girlfriend, Maruša, who is considerably older, a fact that Peter is quick to point out. As an ageing actress, struggling for parts in her local theatre, she oozes insecurity and breathes uncertainty. Together, they spend their time in the local restaurant, smoking, drinking and trading verbal blows. “I bet you’ll just end up a drunk,” she tells Peter each time. Peter just grins and tells her how old she looks. Compounded by a thankless director who soon shows her the door, Maruša finds her identity being squeezed harder and harder against the wall. To escape, Peter and Maruša dream.

A woman plans to commit suicide when her family’s problems become overwhelming.

Ob obletnici moževe smrti skrivaj načrtuje samomor in si v ta namen priskrbi pištolo, uredi življenjsko zavarovanje in celo naroči napis na nagrobniku.

Jelena has had enough of life. Her husband died a year ago, and she feels tired and lonely – in spite of her two daughters and her mother-in-law who all share her flat. She has decided that on the anniversary of her husband’s death she will commit suicide. She has a pistol ready for the job. She has taken out her life insurance policy and got a mason to put her portrait photograph on her gravestone. Gradually, this quiet, humble woman begins to realise that nothing’s simple in a country that’s constantly swinging back and forth between torment and transition.

For Serbian filmmaker Mila Turajlić, a locked door in her mother’s apartment in Belgrade provides the gateway to both her remarkable family history and her country’s tumultuous political inheritance.

A locked door in an apartment in Belgrade, which has not been opened for more than 65 years, drives the desire to explore what comes after a democratic revolution. Faced with the symbol of how the political becomes the personal, the chronicle of a family in Serbia becomes a portrait of choices one makes, from struggling against repression to dealing with disillusion under transition.

To grenkosladko komedijo so izdali leta 1980 kot ‘Ko to tamo peva’. Smo v letu 1941: poln avtobus potuje po kozjih stezah Jugoslavije. Publika spoznava in vzljubi potnike: ljubimce, politike, ekscentrike, ki jih igrajo znani jugoslovanski igralci. Genialno vzdušje filma pretrese nacistična bomba, ki zadane avtobus. Preživita samo ciganska glasbenika.

The time is 1941: a crowded bus travels over unpaved Yugoslavian terrain. In the manner of Stagecoach, the audience comes to know and grow fond of the various passengers: the lovers, the politician, the eccentrics, etc (each character is played by a well-known Yugoslav movie personality). The film’s genial mood is unexpectedly shattered when a Nazi bomb scores a direct hit on the bus. The only surviving passengers are a pair of travelling gypsy musicians.

A canoe trip down the river Kolpa becomes a journey of discovery for three female students.

Kar dekleta vsekakor so.

For their summer holidays, three students Alja, Žana and Simona, decide to take a canoe trip down the Kolpa river, the river which divides Slovenia from Croatia. They are unaware that they are being watched by the Guardian of the Frontier, a conservative local politician, the self-styled defender of traditional Slovenian values, who is quite possible prepared to kill those who transgress. As the girls float deeper into the woods, cracks develop in the three girls’ relationship. Is there more than friendship between Alja and Žana? Does Simona harbour a secret sympathy for the Guardian and what he stands for? With nowhere to turn, the three girls must decide: what is a border crossing and what is just an imaginary line?

Dva jezika. Dva zaljubljenca. Ena skrivnost. / Two languages. Two lovers. One secret.

Due to a weather problem a plane from Denmark is forced to land at the Slovene airport. Amongst the passengers, being taken to a hotel in Ljubljana, is a quiet, beautiful young Danish girl Iben. This is how she meets Tina who drives a shuttle as a summer job. They both need each other, but are very careful because one of them is hiding a secret. They speak to each other in English and in their native languages. Only one of the two languages has the so-called dual, a special grammatical form used in expressions that involve just two subjects. The other language does not. Dual is an honest story about two people who meet precisely at the moment when they absolutely should not have – but they are nevertheless a bit happier because they did.

Čudovito posnet in intenziven političen dokumentarec kaže sodobno resničnost kreativnega nenasilnega upora v Burkini Faso.

The beautifully filmed and intensely political documentary showcases the contemporary reality of creative nonviolent resistance in Burkina Faso. Kamera sledi domačinom, nosačem prtljage, ki pomagajo plezalcem osvojiti vrh druge najvišje gore na svetu. / Cameras follow the indigenous porters who assist climbers in their efforts to reach the summit of the Earth’s second-highest mountain.

K2 velja za najbolj kruto goro na svetu. Številni domačini kot nosači služijo svoj vsakdanji kruh v the izjemnih pogojih.

K2 is widely seen as the world’s harshest mountain. Yet many indigenous porters make a living in its extreme conditions, carrying provisions for foreign climbing expeditions. Often risking their lives with only rudimentary equipment, they receive minimal pay for their efforts. Against a backdrop of breathtaking natural beauty, this cinematic doc explores the everyday courage and sacrifice of the men who call the ‘Savage Mountain’ their home.

By coincidence he dropped his diary and was found by Lena Endre who thinks its great and want to publish it.

Dejanja kriminalca Metina so obarvana v sivih odtenkih.

The actions of the criminal Metin – just like the disconsolate Swedish settings in which his life unfolds – are veiled in shades of grey. He has grand dreams about becoming famous, and unfortunately reality keeps getting in the way and hitting him in the face. A layered portrait, both raw and funny.

Nekaj Palestincev, pridržanih v izraelskem zaporu, deli svoje izkušnje s terapijo, s katero poskušajo zdraviti svoje travme. / Some Palestinians who were held in an Israeli detention center are assembled to re-enact their experience in an effort to heal.

Njihova rekonstrukcija prikliče dolgo zatirana čustva in v ospredje pridejo travme.

Director Raed Andoni places a newspaper advertisement in Ramallah. He is looking for former inmates of the Moskobiya interrogation centre in Jerusalem. In his ad he asks that the men should also have experience as craftsmen, architects or actors. After a casting process that almost feels like role play, he arranges for a replica of the centre’s interrogation rooms and cells to be built to scale inside a hall – under close supervision from the former inmates and based on their memories. In this realistic setting the men subsequently re-enact their interrogations, discuss details about the prison, and express the humiliation they experienced during their detention. Using techniques that are reminiscent of the so-called ‘theatre of the oppressed’ they work together to dramatise their real-life experiences. Their reconstruction brings long repressed emotions and undealt with trauma to the fore. Working on the film takes its toll on the men – both physically and mentally. The director also appears in front of the camera; not only is he creating a stage for his protagonists, he is also coming to terms with his own fragmented memories of imprisonment in Moskobiya thirty years previously.

A father and his estranged son must come together to hand deliver his daughter’s wedding invitations to each guest as per local Palestinian custom.

After years abroad in Italy, Shadi (Saleh Bakri) returns to his native Nazareth. But this is no spectacular homecoming. He’s back somewhat begrudgingly to honour his “wajib” (or duty) to hand out invitations to his sister’s wedding with his father, Abu Shadi (played by Saleh Bakri’s real-life father, actor-director Mohammad Bakri). The simmering tension between the two — who are often stuck in a car, more often than not in traffic — builds, exposing the sometimes-comic chasms that exist between men who live in different worlds but share an unshakeable bond.

V sobi v zaporu Folsom trije moški sodelujejo v štiridnevni skupinski terapiji z najnevarnejšimi zaporniki. / Set inside a single room in Folsom Prison, three men from the outside participate in a four-day group therapy retreat with level-four convicts.

Film Delo ponuja močan in redek pogled mimo opečnatih zidov, jeklenih vrat in poniževanj v naši kulturi.

Film The Work follows three men from outside as they participate in a four-day group therapy retreat with level-four convicts.Over the four days, each man in the room takes his turn at delving deep into his past. The raw and revealing process that the incarcerated men undertake exceeds the expectations of the free men, ripping them out of their comfort zones and forcing them to see themselves and the prisoners in unexpected ways. Film The Work offers a powerful and rare look past the cinder block walls, steel doors and the dehumanizing tropes in our culture.

Med ruševinami skoraj zapuščenega rudarskega mesta se odvijajo življenja, sanje in usode nenavadnih junakov. / The lives, dreams, and destinies of extraordinary characters unfold in this impressionist dreamscape amid the ruins of a semi-abandoned mining town.

Do 50 odstotkov svetovnih zalog mangana, pomembne kovine, so izkopali v mestu Chiatura v zahodni Gruziji. Danes mesto spominja na apokaliptično mesto duhov. Film predstavlja nekaj preostalih prebivalcev.

Up to 50 percent of the world’s manganese, a vital metal across the globe, used to be mined in Chiatura, in western Georgia. Today, it resembles an apocalyptic ghost town and film portrays a few of the remaining inhabitants. Music teacher Zurab dismantles ramshackle concrete buildings and sells the iron girders to make some money on the side. Archil still works in the mine but his real passion is the local amateur theatre group. Despite being malnourished, two young female athletes still train stoically for the next Olympic Games. Oneli provides fascinating insights into a living environment whose bleak industrial ruins appear at once colossal and like a film set. A jumble of clapped out electric wires and aging cable cars runs through the city like the clogged-up arteries of an ailing organism that resists the flow of life in untiring fashion. City of the Sun brings home the ephemeral nature of utopias. In a city where the sun never shines, it is only its inhabitants that generate warmth.

Počaseno propadnje treh posamznikov medtem, ko jih pregrešni svet vleče v svoje globiine. Film je zgodba o divjem, a nežnem ljubezenskem trikotniku. / Depicts the slow decline of three individuals as they are sucked into a world of sinful existence. It is the story of a wild and voracious love triangle.

In Hungary’s post World War I depression era, a wanted one-eyed killer and retired gendarme lieutenant fells in love with a suicidal and disillusioned harlot. In hope of much-needed money, he seeks out one of his old cronies, a now wealthy butcher and businessman, to collect a debt. Tensions are running high as an eternal triangle is about to take shape between the butcher, the harlot and the one-eyed cutthroat.

Ziad Kalthoum composes a striking essay on what it means to live in exile in a war-torn world with no possibilities to return home.

Portret delavcev v izgnanstvu. Nemi in zaprti v cementno podzemlje morajo zdržati do naslednjega dne, ko z razbijanjem in varjenjem utapljajo svoje more.

A portrait of workers in exile. An empathetic encounter with people who have lost their past and their future, locked in the recurring present. Ziad Kalthoum creates an essay documentary of Syrian construction workers building new skyscrapers in Beirut on the ruins caused by the Lebanese civil war. At the same time their own houses are being bombed in Syria. A Curfew prohibits them from leaving the construction site after work. Every night in their pit below the skyscraper the news from their homeland and the memories of the war chase them. Mute and imprisoned in the cement underground, they must endure until the new day arrives where the hammering and welding drowns out their nightmares.

Dokumentarni film o nastajanju gledališke predstave Boris, Milena, Radko pripoveduje univerzalno zgodbo o odnosu med resničnim in izmišljenim, zgodbo o odnosu med osebnim in javnim dojemanjem umetnosti. / Film about theatre production Boris, Milena, Radko and the four individuals who made it: writer and director Dušan Jovanović and actors Milena Zupančič, Radko Polič and Boris Cavazza.

The film documents the four-month production process from the first rehearsal to the premiere, while outlining a personal story of the artists and gesturing towards the relationships between real and imagined, private and public.
