Shepherds of Great Tales


Kranjska Gora International Film Festival will embrace this picturesque village under the Alps for the fourth consequent time. Stories from all around the world will be narrated by films, film creators, mentors and visitors, gatherings in various venues. We can all be shepherds of great tales. Join us!


This year’s harvest will be rich. In 6 different themed sections we will screen more than 60 full featured and short films, followed by round table discussions with creators. For film makers we are organising specialised workshops and masterclasses, and every evening there will be sounds of music in the air. Join us!

Kranjska Gora is an idyllic village under the Alps and one of the most important tourist places in Slovenia.

t’s known as a center for winter sports, but in the last years it has become as a perfect festination to cool down in the scorching summers.

Kranjska Gora invites You to try it’s rich culinary delights or to enjoy in a relaxing atmosphere of coffee houses and evening events. 

This year filmmakers of all ages can learn from the best! During the festival, we will organise workshops & masterclasses.

During the festival, we will organise workshops & masterclasses starting for the youngest: 27.8-29.7. and from Monday 29.7 on we are organising summer courses for newcomers and already established filmmakers who want to learn more. Check it out!

Program Sections

Competitive program

Seven feature films selected by Miroljub Vučković, and seven documentary films selected by Petra Seliškar will be shown in this section starting from 31.7. Selected films will focus on the role of women. A special jury will award the best film, the best director and the best script.

Our peaks

This section keeps film tradition of the place alive by showing films of the past and contemporary film production. This year, the emphasis is on Kekec and his influence on Kranjska Gora and its surroundings.

Look and see

The section focuses on documentary film. This genre is evolving rapidly and has great creative potential. After screenings, discussions with film creators, activists and experts will take place.

Back to the roots

We are presenting a new program section dedicated to film creators who made a mark in film history. This year, we will bow before Luc Besson, Agnes Varda and Dušan Makavejev.

The Short Ones

20 short films shown in international film festivals or provided to the KGIFF by young authors, who are in the beginning of their career. Selection will be made by an expert commission that will award the best film with the Boštjan Hladnik prize.

Jump over the fence

The section focuses on one country; this year it will be the Czech Republic whose cinematography is very rich. Films are selected with the help of the Czech Film Fund and the Czech Film Archive.

We strongly believe in film education of children and students of high schools and universities. We wish to bring quality films and internationally acclaimed guests to Kranjska Gora.

As a film producer, a screenwriter and an actor, Matjaž is an indispensable part of Slovene theater, television and radio production. He is an active organiser of festivals (Grain of salt – festival of creativity for children, Piran 2009-2019), Festival of European and Mediterranean Film, 2009-2019), Kranjska Gora International Film Festival (2016-2019). For his work, he received many awards at home and abroad.

Miroljub Vučković is a member of the Film Center of Serbia. He was director of the International film festival in Beograd, executive of Southeastern film association of Europe and a jury member in festivals in Berlin, Karlovy Vary, Thessaloniki, Alexandria, Isfahan and many others. He was a promoter of foreign films in Yugoslavia presenting to the audience films from Argentina, India, Europe and Arab countries.

Petra Seliškar is a director and producer of documentary films. She founded a production house Petra Pan Film in 2003. Her work comprises the following films: Moj narobe svet (2016), Mostar United (2009) and Babice revolucije (2006). Her films were shown and awarded in many festivals around the globe.


Pavel Jech

Pavel Jech, screenwriter and professor, is a graduate of the Columbia University Film Division as well as of FAMU, The Film and Television School of the Academy of the Performing Arts in Prague, where he served two terms as Dean from 2008 to 2016. >>

Goran Bogdan

Goran Bogdan is a Croatian television, film and theatre actor. Although he studied economics, life had something else in store for him, and he decided to join the world of film. He has performed in a number of theatre performances in the Zagreb Youth Theatre.

Katarina Čas

Katarina Čas is an actress and assistant director known for Wolf of Wall Street (2013), The Guard (2011) and Danny Collins (2015). She worked with many film stars such as Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio and Al Pacino.

Damjan Kozole

Damjan Kozole is a Slovenian filmmaker whose directing credits include the critically-acclaimed Spare Parts, a movie which was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 53th Berlin IFF, worldwide released Slovenian Girl, which was a winner of the Grand Prix Award at the Film Festival in Girona.

Ksenija Benedetti

Long time leader of Protocol of Republic of Slovenia. She took care for protocol during some very important, almost historical, events: visit of British and Danish queen and Japanese princess, Bush – Putin peak, events during Slovene presiding European Union.

Thor Friderich Thorson

Fridrik Thor Fridriksson started his filmmaking carrier with a series of experimental films and documentaries in the early 1980s.As a director, Fridriksson gained international recognition and critical acclaim with his second feature Children of Nature (1991) which was nominated for an Oscar as Best Foreign Language Film.

Čedomir Kolar

Čedomir Kolar was born in the city of Rijeka on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. He graduated in film production at the Belgrade Academy of Dramatic Arts. Since 1991, he has been acting as producer for “Noé Productions” in Paris. His credits include “Before the Rain” by Milcho Manchevski, “Africa my Africa” and “Kini and Adams” by Idrissa Ouedraogo, “As you like me” by Carmine Amoroso, “Train of Life” by Radu Mihaileanu, “The Adopted Son” and “The Chimp” by Aktan Abdykalykov,“No Man’s Land” by Danis Tanovic In 2003 he started the new Paris based production entity, “A.S.A.P. Films”, together with the director Danis Tanovic and his fellow producer Marc Baschet.
